Almost done

I am almost done with Peggy's shawl.  I have 2 more rows and then binding off.  My parents are coming up next week and then I think they can take it back.  I don't think I need to mail it to Peggy.  Mom & Dad are supposed to be back before her surgery.  Works for me!

I have the 3rd disc of Lost and watched 2 episodes today.  I needed to relax and knit.  Its been an eventful few days.  I was diagnosed with Bell's Palsy yesterday and started Prednisone.  So I. hate. everything.  Great... Anyway... Gabriel is "nee nee"ing. LOL  That means he wants to eat.  I think he can have hotdog and some left over Mac N Cheese.  I am not cooking.  Plus, I didn't get to grocery shop yesterday.  My face got bad enough that I ended up at the hospital before I could get it done.  No car today either.  Jerry decided to take it to work.  I'm not surprised.  I'm kind of glad he did.  Then I don't have to decide if I should be driving.

Anywho... I'll take pictures before I send the shawl home, but I won't post them until after Peggy gets it.  I want there to be some surprise.  :)

Finishing up the prayer shawl

I'm on the home stretch of the Prayer Shawl.  I'm thinking that I should get it done this week.  I might have to weave in ends this weekend, but with Jerry gone at WLC except to sleep, I'll have a LOT of knitting time.  So I'm thinking done by Friday, mailing it Saturday morning?  We'll see.

I gave the surprise away like I always do.  I just had to tell Peggy that I dedicated this site to her for the time being and she saw the picture of the top of her shawl.  I hadn't gotten very far in that picture, though, so I'm thinking not much was given away.  But now she knows.  Ya... I suck at surprising people.

Today, I am getting the 2nd disc of Lost and Mad Money with Diane Keaton to watch.  With Jerry unavailable, I plan on catching up on my chick flicks.  :)

Back on track...

3 hours and approximately 40 minutes is how long it took me to rip out all 8 rows enough to fix the mistakes.  Yep... 2 hours of naptime and about an hour and 40 minutes last night while Jerry played a video game.  BTW, my husband loves this project because I'm focused on my knitting and not on t.v.  Therefore, when he comes in and says "Are you really watching this or can I play a game?"  The answer is (unless it is NCIS or Survivor night), "Go ahead and play.  I have to concentrate on this."  LOL

I even was able to start working again last night.  Although, by the time I frogged so much and fixed the problem, I was so tired that I didn't get very far.  So hopefully today I will make up some time.

In other news, I have to remove a project from the list.  Smith's baby shower is next Saturday.  I won't have time to knit anything for her.  I'm o.k. with that, though, because we don't know her that well.  If it were say... Kira, Sandy, Wendy, Nina, Rachel, Heather, Kendra, Melissa Gray or another good friend that should know who you are, I'd be upset.  Smith, however, Jerry works with but isn't that good of friends with.  I mean, they were deployed together and all, but you know... I just discovered her first name is Kristin and not Sarah recently if that tells you anything.

Flores stays on the list and is getting moved up a bit.  His wife isn't due until this summer and he and Jerry are better friends I think.  At least, it seems that way.  Plus, I've talked to Flores a few times and actually know him if I see him in the civilian world, so that makes it a little different.  Smith could walk right past me in the civilian world and I wouldn't know her.  I am going to move Flores up on the list, though, so that I have it ready for any baby shower that might happen.  My husband is not so good with telling me details.  Which is why I thought I'd have time to knit something for Smith.  Apparently, she's due sooner than Jerry thought.

So today we are going to go buy Smith a gift from Target.  It pains me, but not as much as if it were someone we know well.

Deadlines are a curse

I discovered that I made 2 mistakes in the prayer shawl yesterday.  Unfortunately, I didn't see the mistakes until I had done almost 9 more rows.  :(  This wouldn't be a problem if this were a scarf or something small.  At this point, in the prayer shawl, it is over 350 stitches across.  So ripping out 8 more rows to go back and fix the problem is going to take me most of naptime today.  :(  Oh well.  If I don't do it, my stitch count will be off and the pattern won't look right.  So it must be done.

So today, that is what I'll be doing.  I finished the first 4 episodes of Lost.  Now I have to wait for Disc 2.  I also watched Girl With a Pearl Earring.  It was an odd movie.  Yes, its a story based on the famous painting.  No, I don't know if its true or not.  The movie was weird.  Scarlett Johannsen and Colin Firth did a good job, but the story was just kind of odd.  Oh well... as long as its just a Netflix movie, I don't care too much.  I'm glad I didn't pay $9 to $12 to see it in the theater, though.

In Honor of Peggy

I have changed the background to Breast Cancer awareness in honor of Peggy.  I should have done this sooner, but I didn't think about it.  Sorry Peggy!!

Peggy's surgery date is March 8th and I now have a deadline for the Prayer Shawl.  I'm actually about 3/4 of the way done, so I don't think it will be a problem.  I plan to mail it by March 3rd to make sure it gets there on time.  That gives me 2 weeks and this is doable.  I'll try to take a new picture of it tonight.

I started watching Lost Season 1 last night.  Its kind of weird.  Oh well... Is different and that's what I'm looking for in t.v. that I can knit too.  Have you noticed that all t.v. seems the same lately?  Its either a hospital show, cop/law show or reality.  With maybe a corny sitcom thrown in for good measure.  Seriously, how many shows do we need about a new cop or a new nurse on the job?  I'm thinking 1 of each.  The problem with cable is that we apparently feel a need to fill up all of the time slots to justify the existence of so many channels.  I digress...

So Lost is a little weird, but at least its different.  I watched the Pilot episodes yesterday while working on the shawl.  For those of you wondering why I've never really watched it before... I didn't have cable in my home when it started and didn't get the channel it was on.  Shocking!  I know!  I survived almost 10 years without cable!  (They are called books, kids.  You read them and use your imagination to supply the pictures.  Its so much more fun.)  In fact, until I married Jerry I did not have cable and we did not have it at home when I was a child.  There was a brief 1 year period or so where my Dad tried it.  But the cable company ticked him off and he had it removed.  (I know... The General got mad at something and dumped it... another shocker!)

So ya... until I was about 30, no cable t.v. in my life.  And amazingly, I survived.  However, I will start watching Lost on DVD just to see what the big deal is and why I haven't been allowed to call Kira on Wednesday night for the last few years!  Plus, it gives a good background to knitting.  ;)

Have a wonderful day all!

Still working on it

I promise.  I am.  I think I'm actually about 3/4 of the way done, too.  I just need to measure.  Peggy had her appointment with the surgeon last Thursday, so I'm hoping to get it done pronto.  I want to send it to her to use in the hospital.  The plastic surgeon and the "cancer surgeon" (no idea what he's actually called) have to compare schedules and come up with a surgery date.  I think I have at least a week or 2.  I'm hoping anyway.

This weekend, we were out of town at Camp of the Woods and I wasn't sure if I was going to get to knit.  But I threw the bag in the car anyway at the last minute.  I actually ended up getting to knit more than I thought.  Jerry took naps in the room when Gabriel was napping, so I went down to the lobby of the lodge and enjoyed some knitting in front of a fire looking out over a snowy Adirondack Mountain scene.  Cool, huh?  I thought so!

Well, I better get a few things done.  Having a weekend off just means more work for the Mommy when we return.  :(

Prayer working and working on the prayer shawl

First, as always, faith is working with Peggy's cancer.  The PET Scan results showed that the cancer has not invaded the chest wall!  That is GREAT news!!  So a double mastectomy will solve this and chemo will not be necessary!  That is wonderful news!

Now, Peggy may have to have another surgery down the road a bit.  Her cancer is the type that can easily spread to cervical cancer.  So she'll have to be monitored and have more tests, etc., but that's in the future.  For now, we will take our small victories.  :)

I am still working on the prayer shawl and have finished the knot section.  I am very thankful to be done.  I think I frogged more rows in that section than my last 2 projects combined!!  Grr....  I'll try to take new pics later today.  Its coming along nicely, though, and I believe will be done before she goes in for surgery.  :)

Really?

How many times do I need to rip out 1 or 2 rows and re-knit them?  Apparently 3 times.  Because today during naptime, I frogged 4 rows, recounted and started again.

AND I STILL CAME OUT 1 STITCH SHORT!

Grrrrr...... [Please save all comments about me being 1 stitch short of whatever for another time when I am not so frustrated with the knitting!  I love you all, but now is not the time!]

So tonight, I will... once again... frog back a few rows and try to figure out what I'm doing wrong.  I might google some kind of knitting pattern edits page and see if its pattern error.  I know those things happen.  It could be a misprint or something.

Or... I could have just messed up!
